Today's musical distraction brought to you by 30 Seconds to Mars ...

The one thing that makes me feel pretty dingy sometimes and maybe because of my age is when I stumble into stuff like this.

[Current to past]

Today, I'm listening to a random shuffle through 435 songs that make up all the music I dipped into the first half of the year on my ongoing Rhapsody now playing list. One particular song comes up again. I've heard it about 3-4 times and this time I decided to figure out who it's by because it's so damn powerful. The melody, the vocal and the edge are what I'm inevitably drawn to and I can't help but pay closer attention.

So I figured out that I was listening to 30 Seconds to Mars - From Yesterday, their latest single.

In the recent past I remember hearing something similar, The Kill, which is equally moving... the raw energy is hard not to miss. It's one of things about Foo Fighters I'm attracted to.I visited their site, read a few blurbs and am drawn in time back further to My So Called Life, a short lived prime time teen drama that helped launch Claire Danes and one of my favorites of the time. The hot bad boy in that show, also turned movie star and singer of this band that I'm liken so much is Jared Leto , sweet.
I see they are lumped under the genre called EMOtional. It's something I've heard of but never really knew about and this is where I have to plead living-in-a hole ignorance. Not only is it a music genre but it's also a pseudo rocker goth style that reminds me of A Clockwork Orange and Trainspotting. There are a few other bands that fall into this category that I've listened to and liked as well, namely Fall Out Boy  and Dashboard Confessional . Well, call it what you like, I still call it rock.

Today's little music distraction was pretty enlightening. By now, I've listened to a proper sample of their second album A Beautiful Lie. It is definitely high intensity and their cover of The Sugarcubes, Hunter is a sick surprise. I couldn't listen to this all the time, but I think it could certainly give my workouts extra umph.
