Do you remember a time when your body was in totally in sync? When you could go out and jog/run for thirty plus minutes and sprint the final five because you had energy to spare? Or what about the time your legs felt so good you powered all the way up a mountain on a bike? Then there was that time hiking and you were so well conditioned from 10 weeks of weight lifting that you out-paced the rest of the group all day. And what about the yoga class you connected so deeply with the movement that you could hardly believe how good you felt?

All of the above examples are what I have experienced with exercise. It’s something that everyone should know not only because it’s such a good feeling, but also because the human body, barring injury or defect, craves it.

These examples and many more are what movement that moves you means. It’s becoming one with your body so much so that nothing else exists. I often refer to it as the zero circle. Another key element is passion for the process of the movement or in other words you have fun doing it most of the time because you will most likely develop a love/hate relationship with it. This leads to the fine print (aka – the hard part) which is the pre-requisite of being in shape.

Bodies in motion, stay in motion.

Starting with the fine print to experiencing
‘zero’ is being in shape and that is, for most
– me included, pretty challenging. Time and
time again I’ve come across the advice that
in order to get into the habit of regular
movement, the rule of thumb is to take
baby steps for at least 30 days. Unfortunately
discipline just isn’t something that happens
overnight; we’re just not wired that way
thanks to the ego, with the exception of
those who use it to their advantage.

Over the years a few activities have risen
to the top of my list of preferred exercise
although I still like to try new things. Those
few are walking/hiking, cycling and yoga.
I wouldn’t say I’m a natural at any (well,
maybe walking) but I sure have fun doing
them and that is the main reason I come
back to it. Naturally, the lifespan of
repeating an activity you don’t like doing
is going to be pretty short.

Finally, the vibe.. zero circle.

In the moments when thought stops and all you can hear is the wind in your ears or the beat of your heart.. when your totally in tune with your body and the moment moves you, you’ll know that’s what it’s all about. It can be hard to describe with words, to define and give it form but this is definitely one of the finer things in life.

And here I am with Conscious Movement; very similar to Conscious Nourishment, but here the goal is to develop a keener awareness of how exercise relates to the body. There are also elements of pain and illness associated with each, however, it is my intention to focus only the feel good aspects. Those, opposed to the pain, are much more likely to sustain motivation and you can think of it as an exercise with the law of attraction. You should still honor pain, of course, and I assume most know their common sense threshold. If not, you most likely will learn the hard way.

Hence… the mission with Conscious Movement is to learn, and hopefully inspire others who are also ready, how to create a deep and passionate love affair with movement. I intend to get into the best shape of my life with an in-depth independent study of the different areas of exercise I already have fun doing (walking/hiking, cycling and yoga) and it is my intent to become disciplined in the pursuit. (see  Progress Journal) The process is something I’m sure I will both love and hate and ultimately experience many, many more zero circle moments.
